(July 14)It's a 52 billion dollar deal that could create the world's largest brewing company....Anheuser Bush and Belgian brewer InBev reportedly have agreed to join forces, finally completing a merger that has been in the works for moths. The deal still must be approved by shareholders and approve by regulators.Anheuser-Bush initially voted against the merger in June, saying InBev's 65 dollar per share offer was too low.But the maker of Stella Artois and Becks --- then came back to the table, upping their offer to 70 dollars per share to reach an agreement.Anheuser-Busch is by far the largest brewing company in the nation.... owning more than 48 percent of the market share. InBevs says it plans to use St. Louis as its North American headquarters, and will keep all 12 of Anheuser-Busch's North American breweries open...But they did not say if there will be layoffs. It's not clear how long approval might take from regulators and shareholders.Anheuser-Busch-InBev would be the new company's name --- if the final agreement is reached. ___ ___, The Associated Press.

Labor Beat: Teamsters Rally in Support of Anheuser-Busch Workers

Posted by: Admin  /  Category: Videos

The Teamsters sponsored a labor rally in downtown St. Louis on August 16, 2008 to demand that InBev, the international brewing giant, honor its "pledge to protect the workers and communities" which have made Anheuser-Busch a success. InBev recently bought up Anheuser-Bush, an icon of the "American Dream" closely linked with St. Louis history. The rally also had an international flavor, with labor speakers from Canada, Brazil, and Europe. Produced by Labor Beat, the Chicago-based labor tv series. Labor Beat is a CAN TV Community Partner. PlusSt. Louis Residents Fight to Keep Anheuser-BuschSt. Louis Residents Fight to Keep Anheuser-BuschThe Associated PressBelgian brewer InBev is offering a big payday to shareholders of Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc., but its bid to create the world's largest beer company is already facing a major obstacle in St. Louis. (June 12)Beer drinkers in St. Louis aren't raising their glasses to this deal. Belgian brewer In-Bev is offering 46 billion dollars to buy fellow beer maker Anheuser Busch. And the prospect of a name change is upsetting many hereSOTQuite honestly it's very sad because St. Louis has identified with Anheuser-Busch.SOTIt doesn't make me feel very good. That's one of our claims to fame here in St. Louis.Still the unsolicited bid may be too good to pass up as the 65-dollar-a-share offer is above what the company's stock is currently trading at.But the maker of Budweiser is already facing stiff pressure not to sell.Already one Web site has popped up calling the company an American brand and urging it to stay that way.And many we caught up to share that sentiment.SOTIt would be the end of an era.SOTYou don't ever want to lose a kind of cornerstone in your community, someone who is a big player. These people aren't alone. The governor of Missouri is also opposing the deal and he's directing the state's department of economic development to see if there's a way to stop it. ___ ___, The Associated Press.

Shamu for Sale: Anheuser-Busch, InBev, and the future of SeaWorld

Posted by: Admin  /  Category: Videos

Anheuser-Busch announced on the evening of July 13, 2008 that it would the company to Belgian brewing company, InBev, for $52 Billion. While Budweiser shall remain a brand owned by InBev, it doesn't look as good for Shamu and all his friends at SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Discovery Cove, and Aquatica, and the more than 20,000 employees who work for Busch Entertainment Corporation, the entertainment subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch Inc. The entertainment division of the company is estimated to be worth about $3 Billion, which narrows down the list of potential buyers. One would assume either Disney, Universal Studios, or Six Flags are the future buyers. Six Flags has a large amount of debt, Disney isn't in the business of marine parks, and Universal has a hard enough time getting funding from NBC as it is. The purchase isn't expected to be completed until the end of the year. Given the ill state of the tourism industry and even sicker economy, who knows if this is a realistic goal. SeaWorld recently raised their admission to $70 per ticket, which is the equivalent of one share of the new Anheuser-Busch, Inc. Anheuser-Busch bought the parks nearly 20 years ago from Harcourt Brace Jovanovich for $1.1 Billion. It is estimated that InBev will get between $3-4 Billion for Busch Entertainment Corp. SeaWorld announced earlier this year that it will be building a resort island in Dubai, United Arab Emirates that will include a SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Discovery Cove, and Aquatica. If you have any questions about SeaWorld or Anheuser-Busch, please post them!
