Bill Bruford was a founding member of Yes through the years 1968-1972, and while with the band recorded five albums, each of which was more successful than its predecessor. When Bill left Yes in 1972 for King Crimson following the release of "Close To The Edge", there were those who concluded that he'd taken leave of his senses.
But it proved an astute musical move. When King Crimson's enigmatic leader Robert Fripp decided to split the band after three tumultuous albums and move on to other projects, Bill moved to playing countless sessions, and was also briefly a member of the bands National Health, Gong and, more famously, Genesis, where he played alongside Phil Collins, who had just stepped up to the microphone following the departure of Peter Gabriel. Bill was the drummer in the live Genesis situation and was with the band for the majority of 1976 while the band toured their album "A Trick Of The Tail".
Following the hugely well received debut CD "UK" , from the group of the same name, Bill finally felt ready for life as a full time band leader. His own group "Bruford" went on to record four albums and tour extensively as a quartet with guitarist Allan Holdsworth, particularly in the US., but the full group, featuring Annette Peacock on vocals, only ever played two shows, both for UK national TV, and this DVD is one of those shows.
Filmed in 1979 at Oxford Polytechnic in the UK, the concert features the full group playing material from the band's first two CDs, "Feels Good To Me", and "One of a Kind", and includes the stand-out track Beelzebub and the show-stopping Adios a La Pasada. The packaging includes a 12-page booklet archiving critical reaction at the time. All members of this group have gone on to distinguished careers in their own right, and together with the scarcity value of the band's performances, this DVD will be much anticipated by Bill Bruford's extensive fan base.

Bill Bruford performing "Hell's Bells" live at his Drum Clinic at Mohawk College, November 14, 2006 in Hamilton, ON. Best video quality I've seen so far from this clinic, but I should have brought a tripod :-(.
Sorry about the weird grey compression artifacts at the beginning; this is my first time uploading something onto YouTube. I'll put more up soon.

Game of Chess
From the Voiceprint DVD Bruford-Borstlap 'Live in Holland' featuring Michiel Borstlap on piano and keyboard electronics, Bill Bruford on drums.
This was the first public performance of this group - filmed here for Dutch national TV. Pianist Michiel Borstlap won the 1996 of the Thelonious Monk Composer's Award and has had his music recorded by Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter.
Neither quite rock, nor quite jazz, both musicians believe in a music with immediacy, with authorship, and without boundaries or safety nets. A new CD is in production. This DVD available at www.voiceprint.co.uk

Bill Bruford's Earthwork's, Stromboli Kicks from Anthology Vol 2.
available Spring 2007 from www.voiceprint.co.uk
Anthology Volume 2 -- the 1990s
This 85 minute DVD is the second in a two volume anthology of previously unreleased concert footage of Bill Bruford's Earthworks, one of the longest lived, best travelled, and most original jazz quartets. This volume chronicles the band's progress through the 1990s from its electronic start to its acoustic renaissance; volume1 does the same for the 2000s. The group was originated as a vehicle for Bruford's unusual and innovative use of electronic percussion, and did much to challenge perceptions about what a drummer should, or should not, be doing in jazz. Filmed on tour in Germany 1991, Japan 1991, and Bulgaria 1999,
Earthworks continues to offer a platform to the brightest and best young players, and has become a "potential model for the 21st century Jazz mainstream" ( Chicago Reader ).
"...represents everything fusion should have been" ( Downbeat )
