The light dependent reactions specifically produce oxygen gas and convert ADP into ATP and NADP+ into NADPH. Organisms form the kingdom Plantae usually use noncyclic(do not reCYCLE same electrons) photophosphorylation, a two-stage process involving two different chlorophyll photosystems. First, light strikes a plant, specifically a cell. This cell has an organelle(s) called a chloroplast that gives photosynthetic cells their characteristic green color. Chloroplasts have structures called stroma. Stroma are full of hollow disks (similar to a whoopie cushion) called thylakoids arranged in stacks call grana. There are membrane proteins implanted into the surface of the thylakoid called photosystem II and photosystem I that have a pigment called chlorophyll located on the top of these proteins.***Photo System I comes second, but was discovered first and Photo System II was found second and named for that reason even though it comes first.*** Light particles, called photons, strike the electrons located in the chlorophyll of photo system II, Now in an excited state, they travel along the thylakoid membrane to photo system I where they are re-excited by photons again moving them to the acceptor molecule NADP+. The flow of electrons through the membrane proteins creates a concentration gradient, also known as proton motive force, which drives ATP synthesis through chemiosmosis (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btl0ltsw4m0). The electrons originally lost in Photo System II must be replaced. A water molecule is broken down into 2H+ + 1/2 O2 + 2e- by a process called photolysis (or light-splitting). The two electrons from the water molecule replenish electrons lost in photosystem II's chlorophyll. Meanwhile the 2H+ and 1/2O2 are left out for further use. The photosystem II complex replaced its lost electrons from an external source, however, the two other electrons are not returned to photosystem II as they are in the analogous cyclic pathway(prokaryotes like cyanobacteria). The highly excited electrons are transferred to the acceptor molecule, but this time are passed on to an enzyme called Ferredoxin- NADP reductase(NADP+ reductase), for short FNR, which uses them to catalyze the following reaction (as shown): NADP+ + 2H+ + 2e- → NADPH + H+ This consumes the H+ ions produced by the splitting of water, leading to a net production of 1/2O2, ATP, and NADPH+H+ with the consumption of the light(photons) and water. Rev. James Clyburn (D-SC) delivered a forceful speech (sermon?) before hundreds of activists who were in DC for Sojourners (a large progressive religious organization) 2006 Pentecost conference. The whole system is set up to keep us dependant. If you look back in history you see how people were driven off their land, They were made dependant on low paid often dangerous factory work. 2nd Day in GAZA - PALESTINE Three days of intense aerial bombardment have left more than 300 people dead and hundreds more injured. The bombings have taken the lives of civilians including women and children, and have affected hospitals and medical warehouses. The 19 month blockade of Gaza has already severely restricted the capacity of local hospitals to cope with the injured, with many reported to have already run out of critical supplies. The blockade of Gaza has also forced more than half of the 1.5 million population to be dependant on humanitarian assistance. International aid agencies have been struggling to provide food, medicine and clean water whilst the shortage of fuel has made it extremely difficult to run essential services in Gaza including power to hospitals and sewerage treatment plants. This new and severe onslaught has brought yet more misery to an already suffering people. Ordinary Palestinian civilians have been severely affected, with those injured needing urgent medical attention. Hospitals in Gaza are already overflowing, with many running out of medicines and staff. Thousands more people are suffering from fuel and food shortages, while over 750,000 people dependant on food distribution from aid agencies have had their supplies halted. The resulting slowdown of economic growth we have at the moment, will not only create more poverty and job losses, but that will also slow down the growth on energy demand. At the moment Governments that supply energy will raise the price of raw energy, while goverments dependant on imports of raw energy will simply print money causing General inflation. The cost of living will just continue to rise no matter if you can pay for it or not. At the same time our monetary systems will spiral into a "3rd inflation caused crash". Now wait a minute some may ask, what happened the 2nd crash ?.... well by the middle of February 2009 it will get it's own MSM coverage so just wait for it, it's about the same size as the October 2008 crash. This can also crash the dollar at the same time. If your not rich or have a farm, I suggest you buy and stock up on food before the initial shock ripples around our Globe. If MSM is already warning that the US is not a save haven for foreign lenders & investors anymore, you can draw your own personal conclusions out of that info. Not to forget that the housing & credit crunch was only half of the story, the 2nd half will follow in Feb 2009. A US consumer based economy of 70% is an economy that persist of 50% HOT AIR of it's total GDP. Only consuming and printing and not making or producing is a bad 20 year long deal. To keep things simple: everything that depended on US profit-making in the past 20 years will lose it's total value eventually in the coming month and years. no matter in what currency or county this wealth-profit was/is parked. Call me nuts, but a lot of overrated Global values will have to match it's energy input sooner or later.
