It was 1994 when Chicago vocal group Subway's first single, This Lil' Game We Play with vocals by their Motown labelmates 702, sold over a million copies and put the group on the map. Subway, consisting of Eric McNeal, Keith Thomas, Trerail Puckett, and Roy Jones, was signed by Michael Bivins, formerly of New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe, to his Motown-distributed label Biv 10. Their debut album was Good Times, whose cover art and title were inspired by the same-named CBS-TV hit sitcom of the '70s that featured a preteen, pre-stardom Janet Jackson in some episodes.
Their debut single, which was produced and written by Gerald Levert and Edwin Nicholas, was billed as Subway featuring 702, and went gold, making it to number four on Billboard's R&B charts in late 1994. Another Levert and Nicholas song, Fire, went to number 34 in the spring of '95 while Gerald Levert's vocals sprinkle This Is Not a Goodbye which was their third single released later that year.
Unfortunately for Subway fans, except for a single featured on the 1996 Kazaam Soundtrack, the group was never to be heard from again. Another tragic end, that seemed so common for many talented R&B groups of the 90's.

THE DARE THAT WON $10,000 on WWW.DAREJUNKIES.COM: We'd like to see some pole dancing but don't have the time to get to the local strip hut. What's that? Neither do you, ladies? In that case how about giving us a little pole dance show at any place you can find a pole. A stop sign, a tow away zone or even the firehouse will do. Just find the right piece of metal and make a dance partner out of it. The good news is you don't have to even get naked for this one, but like our grandpa once said; "The more skin, the better". Sorry for this one, mom!"

Empty bottles at the mercy of a subway's rhythm.
Song: The Dance Went On Too Long by The Chief Smiles.

Directed by Casimir Nozkowski
Photographed by Ian Savage
We rode the F train and L train for about 4 hours one Sunday documenting the actual way bottles roll around on a subway car. We didn't contrive any of their motion. We just tried to anticipate where they might roll or be kicked around and let them do their thing on the way to and from Canarsie and then Coney Island.

Homicide: Life On The Street
The Subway (6.07)(aired: December 5, 1997)
As dozens of commuters look on in horror, John Lange (Vincent D'Onofrio) falls between the cars of a subway train. No one, however, is quite certain whether Lange fell accidentally, jumped, or was deliberately pushed. But the homicide detectives on the scene are certain about one disturbing fact: If any attempt is made to move Lange, he will probably die on the spot. As the grimly philosophical Lange awaits the inevitable, the detectives search for two people -- one of whom may be a killer.
